There are lots of visual signs that tell the avid golfer that the golf season is here to stay.
Among those signs you have to include: always the last to open because of its location in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Brookhaven is ready to play. Both General Manager Chris Baker and head pro Ben Andrews report the course is in excellent shape for so early in the year. The McGregor Links tournament schedule is in full swing. More and more snowbirds (golfers) are returning to our area for the summer and of course the start of Al Mottou’s golf column heralds the official declaration that golf has arrived in Saratoga County. Tom Oppedisano from Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont, NY took home the first place check for the NENY PGA NBT Bank Pro Classic #1 at Saratoga Golf and Polo Club. Oppedisano fired a four under par 33-33-66 to win by two shots over Peter Gerard from Mill Road Acres in Latham, NY (35-33-68). Oppedisano’s round included five birdies, including three out of four holes #9 through #12 and the final hole. Finishing tied for third place were Brian Lowe from Windham Country Club in Windham, NY (33-36-39) and Ian Breen from Canajoharie Country Club in Canajoharie, NY (37-32-69). Pro Classic #1 Fairway feats: Pam O’Brien recorded the second hole-in-one of her golfing career when she aced the par 3 13th hole at McGregor Links Country Club last weekend using a pitching wedge. More amazing is the eagle that McGregor Links member Jim Carroll registered when he put in second shot into the hole on McGregor’s 432 yard 13th hole and is McGregor’s number 1 ranking in difficulty. He used a 3 iron to accomplish his feat. |
