Schuylerville – Sophie MacDougall, 86, a resident of Old Schuylerville Road, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville.

 

Born August 5, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Amil and Amalia (Bacar) Kobal. She married the late Russell J. MacDougall on July 11, 1944.

 

Mrs. MacDougall was a retired employee of General Foods in Saratoga Springs and a communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville. She was a life member of the Old Saratoga Post # 278 American Legion Auxiliary in Schuylerville where she had been a member since 1947, serving as past president, past county chairman, and treasurer for 25 years.

 

She was a member of Old Saratoga Seniors, serving as past president, secretary, and trip coordinator for 15 years, and had organized the first flu clinic in 1989. She was also a member of the Quaker Springs Seniors and the Racing City Seniors.

 

In addition to her parents, Sophie was predeceased by her husband Russell, who died May 22, 1983; her brother, Emil Kobal; and her sister-in-law and best friend, Rosamond Cormie and husband Roy.

 

Survivors include her 2 sons; Russell J. MacDougall, Jr. and his wife Mary of Corinth, David MacDougall and his wife Johnna of Saranac Lake; 3 grandchildren, Michael and David MacDougall, Donna Eaton and her husband Lee; 1 great-granddaughter, Olivia; and several nieces and nephews.

 

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, Schuylerville with Rev. Christopher Welch officiating.

 

The Rite of Committal will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Schuylerville.

 

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville.

 

The family suggests memorials in her name be made to Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, Schuyler Hose Co., or General Schuyler Emergency Squad.
