Chauncey F. Perry

 

Saratoga Springs – Chauncey F. Perry passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Wesley Health Care Center.

 

He was born June 21, 1918 to the late Thomas and Nellie Downs Perry. He served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II as a paratrooper, in the famed 101st Airborne. He fought in several major battles including the “Battle of the Bulge.”  He earned two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.  Chauncey was a member of the VFW Gurtler Bros. Post 420 and the American Legion Adirondack Post 70. He owned and operated Perry’s Taxi for 23 years.  He then worked for several more years as a bus driver for the Saratoga Springs City School District.  Chauncey was an avid golfer, bowler and had many friends in both activities as well as at Wesley Health Care Center.  He will always be remembered as a big, strong, gentle man with an even bigger heart and his smiling blue eyes. 

 

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Elliott.

 

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Chauncey is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris M. Perry; his children, Greer Westcott, Donna Biss and her husband Michael, Thomas Perry, Tammy Noonan and her husband Jerry, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

 

Relatives and friends gathered on Thursday, April 24 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes in Saratoga Springs. A funeral service followed at the funeral home.

 

Burial with military honors was held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road in Stillwater.
