This year the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis services of Saratoga County (DVRC) is celebrating 25 years of providing assistance to victims of domestic violence throughout Saratoga County.
The program will celebrate its monumental anniversary through an array of fundraisers titled “25 ways in 25 days.” One of the many fundraisers taking place in the 25-day stretch is an event tilted “Music Jam.” The “Music Jam” fundraiser will take place at the Saratoga County Arts Council on Sunday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. It will feature an evening of rock solid entertainment with performances by Jeff and Becky Walton, The Tequila Mockingbirds and Jezzie Tree among other surprise appearances from locally-known artists. All proceeds will go towards benefitting the DVRC. Lisa Reilly, organizer of the “Music Jam” fundraiser, said she found out about the “25 ways in 25 days” fundraising series when she donated some old business clothes to the organization’s “Project Hope,” which helps victims get back on their feet by preparing them for job interviews. “I believe so much in their services and I wanted to do something to give back,” Reilly said. Aside from the array of great music, there will also be delicious appetizers and beverages from Saratoga’s most well-known eateries which include the Circus Café, Gaffney’s, Lilly and the Rose, Grey Gelding and 50 South. Party essentials will be donated by Allerdice Party Rental. The Horseshoe Inn Bar and Grill has also volunteered its services to help serve food and drink and Matt McCabe, of Saratoga Guitar, will provide the sound system for the evening’s event. “I can’t think of a better way to ‘launch the summer’ and enjoying wonderful food, music, and company while at the same time providing much needed assistance to women, their families and pets who are victims of domestic violence,” DVRC Executive Director Maggie Fronk said. The “Music Jam” fundraiser is just one of 24 other fundraisers being held by local businesses and organizations throughout Saratoga County. Fronk said the organization usually puts on an annual gala to help raise funds to support the DVRC. However, this year seeing that the organization is celebrating their 25th anniversary, they decided to come up with “25 ways in 25 days” in order to help increase funds through various fundraisers and to raise awareness concerning the DVRC services. “This year we decided to put something different together in order to involve the broader community and make them aware of our services,” Fronk said. The mission of the Domestic Violence Services and Saratoga Rape Crisis program is to help victims find safety, healing, and a measure of justice by providing a wide range of services including counseling for adults and children, safe shelters, legal advocacy and preventative education throughout the county. “Their services are amazing,” Reilly said. “They have a phenomenal staff that has worked selflessly over the years to ensure the protection of domestic abuse and rape victims throughout Saratoga County.” The cost to attend “Music Jam” is $20 per ticket; food is included with ticket purchase. Fine wines, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be sold for $1. There will also be a raffle featuring an array of wonderful gifts and local services that were donated by area businesses.
