William F. Carey
Schuylerville, NY – William F. Carey, 87, a resident of Green Street, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Eden Park Health Center in Glens Falls. Born September 18, 1920 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Raymond T. and Mary (Kelley) Carey and was a lifelong resident of Schuylerville. Bill was an Honorary Graduate of Schuylerville Central School and a retired employee of the New York State Department of Transportation in Schuylerville. He was a former Trustee of the Village of Schuylerville and served as a Town of Saratoga Democratic Committeeman. He was a World War II Veteran of the Army Air Corps/Air Force, was a Past Commander of American Legion Post #278 in Schuylerville, a member of the Greenwich VFW Post #7291, and was a member of the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard. Bill also was a founding member of the Green Sabres Drum and Bugle Corps and marched in the Kennedy and Johnson inaugural parades in Washington, D.C. He was a Life Member of the Schuyler Hose Company, a member of Schuylerville Council of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, a committee member and past Grand Marshall of the Turning Point Parade, Lodge #2223 B.P.O.E. in Greenwich and a communicant of Notre Dame/Visitation Church in Schuylerville. Bill will be remembered for his devotion to God and Country, love and commitment to family, fondness of neighborhood kids, and his quick wit and good humor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Edna Dumas Carey, and brothers, Lt. Raymond T. Carey, Jr. and James E. Carey, Sr. Survivors include stepsons, David (Darlene) Dumas of Hudson Falls, Larry (Sarah) Dumas of Minnesota, and James (Cathy) Dumas of Corinth; nephew, James (Barb) Carey of Schuylerville; niece, Mary Joan Robbins of Raleigh, NC; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several grand nieces and nephews. Members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians conducted services Wednesday evening, April 16, 2008 at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. Members of the Schuyler Hose Company and friends also gathered at the funeral home. A funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church; the Rev. John Kirwin officiated. The Rite of Committal followed at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
