John H. “Jack” Schrade

 

Saratoga Springs – John H. “Jack” Schrade passed away Monday evening, April. 7, 2008 at the Samuel Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany. He was 81. He was comforted to the end by his loving daughter, Gretchen.

 

Born on July 2, 1926 in Saratoga Springs, he was a son of the late William and Florence (Keil) Schrade and a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. He served in the US Navy Sea Bees and was a veteran of World War II. Jack had owned and operated Schrade’s Greenhouses and Landscaping for many years and established the Posie Peddler Florist in Saratoga Springs in 1974. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club and had resided for 30 years in Lighthouse Point, Florida. For the past two years, Jack and Nancy have resided with their daughter, Gretchen and son-in-law, Jim.

 

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by one brother, David Schrade in 1930 and one sister, Constance Schrade in 1935.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy (Falkenbury) Schrade, whom he married on Oct. 25, 1952; his children, John Schrade of North Creek, Thomas Schrade of Saratoga Springs, Gretchen (James) Squires of Saratoga Springs and Carol (John) Kelly of Trinity, FL; two brothers, Bill Schrade of Berlin, Georgia and Paul Schrade of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Coull of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and Louise (“Weezie”) Duff of Phoenixville, PA; his grandchildren, Amy and Jeffrey Wright, Julie and Ryan Schrade, Andrea and Jacob Cummings; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Relatives and friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway in Saratoga.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2007 at the Burke/Bussing Funeral Home. Senior Pastor James Jaekel of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate.

 

Burial with military honors will follow in Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Avenue in Saratoga.

 

Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211.
