The Bobcat Company is well-known in the contractor world, but now homeowners are starting to learn a thing or two about them.

Bobcat of Saratoga, located at 1279 Route 9 in Gansevoort, is expecting to see some new faces in the next few weeks as it plans to roll out a line of homeowner tractors.

The CT120 compact tractor is one example. Bobcat’s literature illustrates it as “perfect for your small farm or commercial property. It can be used to work in and around barns and sheds, mowing, property maintenance and light-duty work.”

Jeremy Rauf, store manager at Bobcat of Saratoga, can’t wait for the tractors to arrive.

“When Bobcat looked at the market share being in skid steers where the overall global market with compact tractors, there’s a pretty large demand,” Rauf said. “They felt it was definitely a market they could get their piece of.”

Formerly located on Maple Avenue, Bobcat of Saratoga moved to its current location two years ago. The company is owned by R.H. Finke and Sons out of Selkirk.

Rauf has been with the company for six years and moved to the Bobcat location last year.

“Bobcat’s a great name and they knew they could get into the market and produce a very high quality product for the consumer at a relatively good cost,” Rauf said.

The popularity of the Bobcat name is very evident in the Saratoga store. Among the items for sale with the Bobcat logo are hats, T-shirts, gloves, toy tractors and even shot glasses.

Bobcat’s major rivals in the home tractor business are Kubota and John Deere.

“The biggest claim we have on our tractors are all the extras and all the small details,” Rauf said.

“Our vehicles are fully loaded, so you’re going to get a lot of bang for your buck.”

For example, the CT 120 has standard four-wheel drive for working in tough conditions, hydrostatic transmission with two travel speed ranges for easy operation, sleek hood and side panels made of tough, durable steel, not plastic and an exclusive Bobcat suspension seat.

On the contactor side, Bobcat of Saratoga serves Saratoga, Washington, Warren Counties,  Manchester, Vt. and all the way up to the Canadian border. The three-acre site sees a lot of customers looking for the larger items.

“We do well with the excavators, the skid steers and a lot of rentals,” Rauf said. “We haven’t seen a lot of change in the last few years. Saratoga County is a gem in the rough as everyone knows.”
