Within the next 60 days, construction will begin on Route 9 in west Wilton for a CVS Pharmacy, the first drugstore to come to the area.
After about a year of planning, final approval was given to CVS Pharmacy’s development branch G.B Northeast, LLC to build the 13,225-square-foot building during Wednesday’s meeting of the Wilton Planning Board. “This is a good thing for the town because there is definitely a demand for a drugstore,” said Keith Manz, director of planning and engineering. He added that the CVS will be accessible by sidewalk, allowing residents who live close by to walk, as opposed to driving to the drug stores along Route 50 near exit 15, or into Saratoga Springs. The site, located at 653 Route 9, currently sits on well and septic systems. There are plans to extend municipal water lines into this area of Wilton, Manz said. The new building will sit directly next to the Dunkin’ Donuts. The store is planned to open sometime in the fall, said Donald Zee, attorney for G.B Northeast, LLC. He added that the site at Route 9 was chosen after reviewing studies of traffic patterns, population growth and proximity to other CVS Pharmacy branches. The facility will employ between 20 and 25 employees. |
