Tone Pony
Who’s who: Samuel Yager - guitar and vocals Lisa Konopinski - synthesizer and vocals Kamran Parwana - synthesizer About the band: Saratoga Springs’ Tone Pony has been together for the past six months. The group is on Sub Bombin’ Records, a Spa City-based independent label. Although Yager, Konopinski and Parwana usually perform as a trio, Tone Pony sometimes features additional members. Yager writes and records all of the band’s music. Artists such as Hot Chip, Broken Social Scene, Owl City, Dan Deacon, Arcade Fire and Ben Gibbard have influenced the outfit’s electro indie pop. Fans have compared Tone Pony’s music to that of Bright Eyes and The Postal Service. In January 2008, Tone Pony released a six-song EP titled “No Problems, Please.” Yager is currently writing songs for their first full-length album. The band has approximately eight original tunes, and doesn’t play any cover songs. Tone Pony uses computerized beats in place of drums, and their sets generally last about a half hour. Yager said he’d like the interest in Tone Pony to grow to the point where they can regularly play a lot of basement shows and house parties. His ultimate goal would be to perform on the “Late Show with David Letterman.” Tone Pony is playing at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at King’s Tavern in Saratoga Springs with BEWARE! the Other Head of Science and Sgt. Dunbar and the Hobo Banned. The cost is $5. Yager said Tone Pony is planning to do several mini tours of the surrounding area this summer. To check out the band, visit www.myspace.com/samuelyager. Quotable Quotes: “I don’t know what else I’d do with myself. All of my free time is spent writing and recording music,” Yager said. “You can expect crowd participation and singing. Some people have been slow dancing at our shows,” Yager said. “I usually fall over a lot. I get really into it and lose my balance.” —Mike Ryan |
