Bringing a building, or in this case an apartment, back to its former glory isn’t easy.
Skidmore Apartments/ Burns Management are finishing up renovations on the last apartment at 88 Circular St. in Saratoga Springs. Sarajane Brimhall, site manager of Skidmore Apartments, said they’ve spent the last few months restoring the ceilings, mantle, and floors and at the same time trying to make the front apartment a little more modern. “We wanted to bring the building back to its original state,” she said. “We are really proud to be bringing it back.” The building is full of history. It was built around 1877 by Ransom H. Torrey and was later part of the original Skidmore College campus. Many presidents of the college called 88 Circular St. home and it’s a landmark. In the 1940s, there was a fire and the building was turned into dorms. The house was once a single-family home, but now is broken into five apartments. “This apartment is our crown jewel,” Brimhall said. “It is very rare to have an opportunity to do this type of renovation.” The next step is to find someone to live in the apartment. “We want someone who will appreciate it and be happy there,” Brimhall said. On March 7, there will be an open house for the public to get a glimpse of the newly renovated apartment. Brimhall said people can stop by to learn about the history or potentially find a space to live in. |
