Conrad charged with two counts of forcible touching

Douglas Conrad, 35, of 151 Jefferson St., Saratoga Springs, was charged Thursday morning with two counts of forcible touching, a class A misdemeanor.

Conrad was previously arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 13, and charged with four counts of forcible touching, which he pleaded not guilty to. Thursday’s charges are the result of additional information learned after the initial arrest and do not involve the previous victims.

Conrad was arraigned Thursday in Saratoga Springs City Court, and remanded to Saratoga County Jail with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.

As with the previous charges, Saratoga Springs Police said the alleged incidents occurred at a private residence and there is no indication at this point that any of the alleged activity was related to Conrad’s employment as a bus driver for the Saratoga Springs City School District.

Members of the Saratoga Springs Police Department Juvenile Aid Unit are continuing to follow up on leads related to this investigation.

Man sentenced for harboring illegal animals

Jeffrey Ash, owner of Ashville Game Farm in Greenwich, has 60 days to sell off his big cats now that he’s been sentenced in Saratoga County Court on forged-document charges.

Ash, 54, will no longer be able to own leopards, tigers, lions or hybrid ligers.  He will also have to serve three years of probation for providing fake insurance documents to the Saratoga County Fair.

The matter was brought to light after Ash’s Bengal tiger reached through its cage and scratched a 4-year-old boy at the Saratoga County Fair in Ballston Spa.

Suicide ruled out in fatal head-on crash

State police investigators have ruled out suicide in the Tuesday mourning crash that claimed the life of a Hudson Falls man, and forced police to close down the north-bound Northway for hours.

Stanley Chrostowski, 51, died when he hit a tractor trailer after getting on the Exit 18 ramp, and heading the wrong way.

According to local police in the village of Hudson Falls, Chrostowski had ongoing mental health problems.

State Police accident specialists are still trying to determine how fast Chrostowski was going when he hit a Stewart’s Shops tractor-trailer going northbound between Exits 17 and 18.  No one else was hurt in the accident, as the Stewarts truck driver was able to escape before his truck caught on fire.

Stillwater woman arrested for endangering welfare of child

A Stillwater woman was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 26 and charged with two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The woman, whose name isn’t being released in order to protect her child's identity, is the mother of a 14-year-old boy police say was sexually abused by a local man. Saratoga Springs Police allege she knew about the abuse, but failed to take any action.

Lt. Gregory Veitch said an investigation shows the woman failed to report to authorities allegations that James Wiley, 60, made sexual contact with her son last year. Wiley pleaded not guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual act, a class E felony, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, and is being held at Marcy Correctional Facility.

The woman pleaded not guilty on Tuesday in City Court. She is due back in court on March 25.
