It is ironic that my first column here at Saratoga TODAY is also my last.
As many of you loyal readers pick up this week’s issue, I will be heading to Fort Lauderdale. Many know I’ve been toying with this idea for a few years, and the time has finally come. Some think I am crazy for making this life-changing move without a job lined up and they might be right. You are always told not to live life with regrets and a good friend of mine from Plattsburgh State University always told me to “Go big, or go home.” So here I go. While my time here at Saratoga TODAY has been short, I believe we’ve raised the bar and am proud to have been apart of it — from our magazines, to the Enchanting Wedding Expo this past weekend, to our weekly product. I have to thank Publisher Chad Beatty and Executive Editor Eric DeGrechie for giving me this opportunity. When they first talked to me about joining the Saratoga TODAY team, I told them I was about 80 percent sure I was moving to Florida relatively soon, but they took a chance on me. Now it’s my turn to take a chance and roll the dice. The last three years of covering businesses, politics and being apart of the community will have a lasting affect on me and I will never forget anyone I’ve met. Being a journalist in this great city and county has opened many doors for me; doors I won’t soon be closing. Seeing stories I’ve written framed in different businesses around town, or knowing I might have contributed to the attendance of a fundraising event, is a great feeling and is hard to put into words. Many business owners have become friends, colleagues have become family and the community has become a second home. Everyone involved in the Downtown Business Association, Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, City Center, Convention and Tourism Bureau, Saratoga Hospital and the Arthur Murray Dance Studio have been so good to me I can’t thank you all enough. While I am moving away, I will be back. I have family in the area and so many friends in the Spa City, I will be making trips to visit. Even though I haven’t left yet I am planning a trip back in my head. If all goes well in Florida I want to plan a trip to catch the last weekend of the Saratoga racing meet this summer and see Saratoga Springs in all its glory. Thanks to everyone. I will miss you all. |
