Alvin R. Massiah

 

Saratoga Lake-Alvin R. Massiah died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at home surrounded by his beloved family. He was 77.

 

Born July 22, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Rudolph and Reeny (Hamilton) Massiah. He attended Brooklyn College prior to being drafted in the army for service during the Korean War. After his service time Alvin returned to his wife Katherine (Wyche) Massiah and soon began a career as a police officer as well as starting a family. He eventually retired from the New York City Housing Authority and moved his family to Saratoga Springs in 1973. Alvin worked at various jobs in the security field, most recently as a security/peace officer at Saratoga Race course.

 

In addition to his parents, Alvin is predeceased by his beloved wife Katherine, who passed away in 2005 after 53 years of marriage.

 

Survivors include his sons, Michael Massiah and daughter- in- law Magalie of Brooklyn, Gregory Massiah of Saratoga Lake; a daughter, Kim Grey of Saratoga Springs; grandchildren, Danielle Massiah of Washington DC, Simonne Grey of Saratoga, Monique Massiah of Arizona, Julian Massiah of Brooklyn and Deven Grey of Stillwater; his beloved nephew Donney A. Massiah Jr and niece Donna Massiah; his sister- in- law Muriel Massiah and many other relatives and friends.

 

Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).

 

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11a.m. at The Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. The Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor, will officiate.

 

Burial will be private.

 

Memorials may be made in his name to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
