Eunice (Valentine) Lohnes
Saratoga Springs – Eunice (Valentine) Lohnes passed away Sunday (Feb. 24, 2008) at the Wesley Health Care Center, Lawrence St. She was 97. Born on Sept. 9, 1910 in Cosby, TN, she is the daughter of the late William and Rachel Louise Baxter Valentine. Eunice was the last surviving child of ten siblings and while in high school, played basketball in the Tennessee state championship game. She had worked for over 30 years as a cashier at the Saratoga Spa Golf Course and was active with the Clifton Park Senior Citizens. A member of the Round Lake United Methodist Church, she loved to bowl, play cards and read and also especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Willard “Jess” Lohnes, who died on April 10, 2004 and a step-mother, Sally Baxter Valentine. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William and Elizabeth Lohnes of Gansevoort; her daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Paul Teich of Madison, CT; her grandsons, John, Donald and William Teich and five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Brendan, Jennifer, Adam and Dustin Teich Funeral services were held Thursday at the Round Lake United Methodist Church, 34 George Ave., Round Lake. Burial will be in the family plot in Dunning Street Cemetery, Malta, NY. Arrangements were under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Memorials may be made in her name to the Round Lake United Methodist Church, PO Box 485, Round Lake, NY 12151.
