Whether men want to admit it or not, this is a woman’s world.
Saratoga TODAY is going to recognize the Top 10 Women of Influence in the community. According to Saratoga TODAY Publisher Chad Beatty, this is an idea that he has had for quite a while. “On a daily basis I come in contact with some truly impressive women,” Beatty said. “Whether they are in the business sector, philanthropic, child care or any other, I feel it is time to recognize these local women and highlight their accomplishments in our region.” With that in mind, Saratoga TODAY will be asking the community to nominate women they believe are influential and have a positive impact on others. The goal is to search Saratoga County for its most dynamic women leaders. Charles Wait, chairmen of the Adirondack Trust Co. and sponsor of the event, said there are all sorts of statistics nationwide that women control a lot – whether it is in owning a business, being a part of a not-for-profit or politics. “It made perfect sense to us to get involved,” Wait said of Adirondack Trust’s sponsorship. He said women will probably say it’s about time when they hear about the Women of Influence and men will say why didn’t we think of this before. Wait said when he first came to the Adirondack Trust he knew every business owner on Broadway and only a few were women. “I’m sure half or more on Broadway are owned by women,” Wait said. “Women are ascending to leadership positions.” He said the same can be said of the Saratoga Springs Police Department. He said 21 out of 51 officers are women. In politics, Wait said former mayor A.C. Riley started the ball rolling for women and now many women involved in politics countywide. “It’s really been a seas change,” Wait said. The form is available at www.saratogatodayonline.com starting February, 15. The deadline for nominations is March 17. According to Beatty, the person who makes the nomination must include a biographical profile of professional accomplishments, community involvement and advocacy for women.
