Man pleads in cop slashing

 

Seth Dawson pleaded guilty to assault on Monday, Jan. 6, for slashing Saratoga Springs Police Officer Adam Baker’s throat back in September 2007.

Dawson, 19, of 767 County Route 64 in Shushan, Washington County assaulted the officer after fleeing from Four Winds Saratoga, a psychiatric hospital on Crescent Avenue.

Dawson pleaded guilty to the charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault. Dawson could face 10 to 17 years in state prison after the sentencing on March 12.

 

 

Barbara Bruno passes away

The wife of Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno passed away at her home in Brunswick on Monday, Jan. 6.

Barbara Frasier Bruno, 77, had a longtime battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was married to the senator for 57 years.

She was born in Glens Falls and was a 1948 graduate of Glens Falls High School.

 

 

Firefighter injured in crash

On Friday, Jan. 4, a 30-year-old Wilton firefighter was injured in a two-car accident and taken to Saratoga Hospital.

William F. Morgan, 53, was heading home from the fire department, he was hit head on by a vehicle driven by Shawna Borman, also 53.

As of Jan. 8, she was still in critical condition at Albany Medical Center.

Borman was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right.

 

Spa City man arrested in Glens Falls

A 27-year-old Saratoga Springs man was arrested in Glens Falls on Sunday, Jan. 6, after he drew attention to himself by revving up the engine of the car he was driving.

The 2005 Nissan Altima he was driving was reported stolen on Jan. 1 in Saratoga Springs.

Henry J. Williams was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

 

New officers join the force

Three new police officers joined the Saratoga Springs Police Department after graduating from the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Academy on Jan. 3.

Officers Amy Evertsen, John Guzek and Aaron Moore spent the past six months assigned to the Academy, and they will begin patrolling the streets of Saratoga Springs with an experienced field training officer in the coming weeks. Upon completion of the Department’s Field Training Program the officers will be assigned to one of the three patrol shifts.

Officer Evertsen is single with four children and is the daughter of Richard Evertsen, an Assistant Chief for the Albuquerque, NM Police Department. Officer Guzek is married with two children. Officer Moore is married, was squad leader during Police Academy, and served in the United States Air Force, seeing combat in Iraq and Kuwait.

Saratoga Springs Police Chief Edward Moore, no relation to Officer Moore, congratulated Officers Evertsen, Guzek and Moore on their successful completion of the Police Academy.

“We look forward to long and successful careers at the Saratoga Springs Police Department for each of these quality individuals,” he said.

Commissioner of Public Safety Ron Kim added, “We welcome these three new officers to the Police Department and look forward to working with them in the future.”
