Make it a Fresh Start for Breakfast

We have a new baker at the Saratoga Farmers’ Market, Cambridge Bakery who can supply some incredible breakfast goodies already made or ingredients for others.   You must come to believe!

To celebrate the arrival of this new vendor I am suggesting two wonderful breakfast recipes made partly with their product. This Saturday at the market I will be making the the yummy and highly nutritious Yogranjam for sampling. Hope to see you there.

Farmers’ Market French Toast

- 3 fresh eggs

- ¼ c milk

- tsp cinnamon

- Cambridge Bakery Bread of Choice

- Oil

- Sheldon’s Maple Syrup, warmed

Take an electric skillet and set temp for 375-400 degrees and add oil to cover bottom. Crack eggs open into pie plate size dish, add milk and cinnamon and beat until frothy.

Check temperature of oil in skillet by dropping a droplet of egg mixture into the skillet.  When the drop immediately sizzles its ready.

Lightly dip a slice of bread into egg mixture, completely coating both sides of bread, but not soaking it.  Put bread in skillet and repeat bread dipping until skillet has one layer of bread sizzling. Turn over bread to brown both sides.

Bread should be a light golden brown, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Remove bread onto a plate with paper towel to soak up any excess oil.  Serve with warm syrup over top.

The egg mixture should do approximately 8-10 slices of bread.

The above French Toast  recipe is oh so good, but also a bit indulgent.  If you are looking to get a nutritious and lower calorie start to your day, read on.

“Yograjam”

- 1 c Argyle Cheese Factory Eden Plain Yogurt

- ½ c Cambridge Bakery Granola

- tbsp Laurie’s Jam, your favorite flavor

Put the above ingredients together in a dish, mix and eat. Simple as it gets.  Great for those on-the-go who need a light meal that will keep them going until lunch.

The measurements are imprecise and subject to your taste buds. Flavor is up to your choice of jam (or berry/fruit when in season). Enjoy and feel good about it!

We will be making some “Yograjam” to sample at the market this Saturday. The Saratoga Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday 9-1 at the Salvation Army Building on Woodlawn.
