Nancy Walker

About the artist:

Singer/songwriter Nancy Walker only moved to Greenfield Center from Chicago six years ago, but she’s been entertaining audiences for the last 30 years. Walker, 50, has approximately 30 original tunes which she performs with her guitarist and husband, Larry Clyman.

A former member of the Chicago-based trio Sons of the Never Wrong, Walker has kept busy since she moved to the area by organizing a performance group called Female Songwriters You Wanna Hear - East, and by contributing harmony tracks on several other artists’ projects. She also works full-time as an administrative assistant at Skidmore College.

Artists such as John Fogerty, Janis Joplin, Bad Company, Joni Mitchell, Christine McVie, and Neil Young have influenced her folk rock. Fans have compared Walker’s strong, distinctive alto voice to that of Joni Mitchell.

So far, Walker has released two full-length albums, “All These Things” in 1999 and “Layers of Rust and Time” in 2003. She is currently writing new songs, but didn’t hint as to when her next record would appear.

The artist receives royalties from MTV because the title track of her album “All These Things” was played during an episode of the popular show “MADE.”

Walker has received airplay on WSPN, as well as on a number of college radio stations in the Chicago area. She has performed at many local venues including Bailey’s Café, The Saratoga City Tavern, Ballston Spa Farmer’s Market, Moon and River Café, and Caffe Lena.

Nancy Walker is playing a free, all ages show at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Coffee Planet in Ballston Spa. Walker is also available to perform at bridal showers, company retreats, boutique openings, and private parties.

Quotable Quotes:

“My goal is to connect with people. That’s what it’s always been,” Walker said.

“I hope my music gives people a place of solace, helps them through the day, or inspires them to do things they’ve always wanted to do,” Walker said.
