Business - Max London's Restaurant and Bar opens on Broadway PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kevin Goodwin
Friday, 21 December 2007
Between being featured in magazines and USA Today, the London family opened Max London’s Restaurant and Bar.

Michael and Wendy London owners of the bakery were on the cover of the first issue of Pastry and Baking North America and called the bakery among “the global elite.”

Wendy was featured in BeE Woman Magazine, Fall 2007 issue. The Londons were also named one of the Top 10 places in America for artisan bread.

“In all of this we opened a restaurant too,” Michael London said.

The restaurant is connected to Mrs. London’s located at 464 Broadway.

While the restaurant hasn’t had a grand opening, Michael said word of mouth has brought many customers into the restaurant so far.

“It’s very exciting,” Michael said. “We just opened our doors and are taking it one day at a time.”

Max is excited to finally be open too. He said people will forget they are in Saratoga Springs when they enter the restaurant.

“I think we created a unique atmosphere in the bar and dining room,” he said. “It’s been great so far considering we opened during the winter.”

Max said they wanted to open in the fall, but with a few delays in construction they didn’t want to rush to get open.

“I wanted to make sure everything was in place before we opened the doors,” he said.

The restaurant seats 85 people including the bar.

Michael said they’ve worked very hard on their wine list and serve some wines by the quartino, which is the equivalent of 1 ½ glasses of wine.

He said most people always want a little more than one glass and the quartino is also good if you want to share your drink.

“People can come here and get value for their wine,” he said. “They might not recognize the wine, but they will recognize how great it tastes.”

For four years, the London’s have been planning the restaurant and Michael said they’ve been researching wines for a while. The list of reds and whites are ones that aren’t available upstate.

There are craft beers on tap too. Max said the wanted to choose some beers that no one else had and a few beers brewed in New York.

“Max’s cooking is the best thing about the restaurant though,” Michael said of his son.

The restaurant gets products from local farms and Michael said they use only the best ingredients.

Max said the fish is flown in from Hawaii and Boston overnight. Neapolitan pizzas, salads, pastas and entrees are all on the Mediterranean style menu. He said the entrees will change on a day-to-day basis depending on what ingredients are in season.

“We’ll always have something different,” he said. “We are different from everything around here.”

Max said pictures are online showing the construction to what the restaurant looks like now.

Max London’s is open Tuesday through Saturday and opens it’s doors at 5:30 p.m. Michael said there will be a special New Year’s Eve menu and in 2008 will have a Sunday brunch that was once done at Mrs. London’s while they were located on Phila Street.
