Ronni Aragona, 16; Brad Bolen, 18; Kim Carpenter, 24; Kathy DeValk, 30; Victoria Ferrante, 10; Laura Galib, 10; Amanda Galib, 11;  Harrison Hatton, 14; Jack Hatton, 12;  Sam LaGasse, 17; Phil Metz, 14;  Cam Shanahan, 9; Kiernan Shanahan, 6; Matt Stucchi, 7; Nick Stucchi, 11; Kyle Vaskulat with JMJC coaches, Jason Morris, Chuck DaLessio and Kevin Koch, attended the Tech Judo tournament in North Bergen, N.J.

Stevens led the gang at the Swedish Open going 4-2 to finish seventh in 81kg. Stevens opened with dominant wins before dropping a heartbreaker to Tom Davis (GBR). Stevens was leading by waza-ari, but couldn’t hold on as Davis continued on to reach the final. Stevens then beat the No. 1 Canadian for the second straight week and defeated the No. 1 Swiss. Travis lost his next match to eventual bronze medalist, Marian Halas (ROM).

Burnt Hills High grad, Nick Delpopolo, was impressive in his European debut going all the way to the 73kg third round before bowing out to Johannes Herzig in an overtime thriller. Delpopolo had wins over Denis Zenikov (FIN) and Simon Nessenshon (SUI).

Nick Kossor suffered defeat in the 60kg first round to the British No. 2  in another overtime nail-biter and was eliminated.

Justin Flores also went down in the first round. Hannah Martin lost the opening bout in her European tour debut and was eliminated. This group will spend the week in Sweden at the training camp and will move on to Finland for the Finnish Open on the weekend before returning home. Katie Mocco will join group when she leaves for Finland on Wednesday.

Mocco went 3-0 to capture Gold at the Benito Juarez International (Mexican Open) to recapture the US No. 1 slot in 78kg. Carrie Chandler also went 3-0 to claim Gold at 63kg.

Chandler is now the only current US player to hold top eight rankings in three Olympic weight classes. Chandler is the reigning National Champ and No. 1-ranked at 52kg, as well as ranked No. 2 at 57kg from her performance on the North American tour, and is now No. 8 in 63kg.

Yuko Sin broke through at 90kg posting a 4-1 record on his way to winning a bronze medal.

With this performance, Sin is now ranked No. 9 at 90kg which moves him in shouting distance of making the Olympic trials, which accepts the top eight player in each division. Sin defeated US No. 6 in the bronze medal match. AJ Silverman poured in his fifth, which included a seventh place finish at the Rendez Vous Canada, solid performance in a row taking fifth place losing only to Mexico No. 1 in a semi-final battle then to veteran, RJ Cohen (USA) in the bronze medal bout.

Aragona, Ferrante, Amanda Galib, Harrison Hatton, Jack Hatton, LaGasse, Kiernan Shanahan, Matt Stucchi, Nick Stucchi and Kyle Vashkulat led the Medal haul in N.J., all winning Golds.

Bolen, Carpenter, DeValk, Laura Galib and Cam Shanahan took silver medals and then Jack Hatton moved up an age group to win a bronze, along with Metz, to give the JMJC a total of 17 medals on the day.
