The Republican Party remains in control of the county board of supervisors, but gained one seat in the city of Saratoga Springs.

Challenger Matthew Veitch and Democratic incumbent Joanne Yepsen landed 4,312 and 4,697 votes respectively. Incumbent Cheryl Keyrouze received 3,847 votes.

Yepsen said she thought there was a good voter turnout and said people voted for her for what she’s done in her two years as City Supervisor. She thinks being accessible, accountable and a strong voice at the county board led to her re-election.

With Veitch joining Yepsen as a City Supervisor, the latter feels working with all parties on the city, county and state level is important.

The feeling is mutual for Veitch, who said in order to do the right things and get things done, they have to work together as a team.

“People want to see public officials working together and I’m looking forward to working with her,” he said of Yepsen.

Veitch said they’ve worked on projects together in the past, most recently the Geyser Road trails. Both think this is a priority in the next two years.

Veitch said with him and Yepsen on the board, they will try to get funding from the county for the trail.

“I think it will be a bonus having both of us on the board,” Veitch said.

Veitch said he thinks the city has gone its own way in years past regarding the relationship with the county.

“We need to be cooperative with the county and other towns,” he said.

He said all the hard work paid off and is anxious to learn the ropes and jump in as City Supervisor. He said he thinks having the city supervisors being split one Republican and one Democrat is unprecedented.

Yepsen said when she was campaigning two years ago, the issue was the county water project, which she voted against repeatedly. The future of racing at the Saratoga Race Course is on Yepsen’s plate for the next two years too.

Veitch said he wants to sit down with the members of the City Council and see what they want out of the county and what its agenda is.

“I want to build a bridge with the county,” Veitch said.

During her victory speech, Yepsen said Keehn has set standards for all in public office much higher.

“She really was the people’s mayor,” Yepsen said. “Two years ago, I pledged to be more accountable at the supervisor’s board.

Yepsen made a point to thank her family with son, Cole, and daughter, Laura, in attendance.

“I  couldn’t have done it without them. They have been patient and supportive of me, going door to door with me,” Yepsen said. “I intend to carry that on for the next two years; we have too much work to do.”

In other supervisor races: Incumbent Frank Thompson defeated Independent challenger John Cromie, 1,670-893. Thompson won by 189 votes over Cromie in the Republican Primary back in September.

Democratic incumbent J. Gregory Connors lost his supervisor seat in the town of Stillwater to Republican Shawn Connelly.

The Democrats evened the loss of Connors out with a win the in town of Ballston.

Patti Southworth gained 1,483 votes to Harold Townley’s 1,297 in the race.

Preston Jenkins Jr., a Democrat, beat out Republican Todd Kusnierz Jr. by 186 votes to become the new Moreau Town Supervisor.

Republican incumbent Harry G. Gutheil Jr., decided not to seek re-election as Moreau Supervisor.

Polictical newcomer Richard Rowland defeated Democrat Philip Gargan to become the new Greenfield Supervisor. He defeated incumbent Al Janik and Gargan in the GOP Primary in September. Gargan ran as an independent in the General Election.

Republcian incumbent Ricard Lucia retained his supervisor post for Corinth by almost 400 votes over Jeff Sandwick.
