In order for a not-for-profit organization of volunteers like Homes for Orphaned Pets Exist to continue to endure, successful fundraisers and donations from caring individuals are critical.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, H.O.P.E. is hosting a tour of Saratoga Springs’ historic Bed and Breakfasts from 2-6 p.m. All proceeds from the first-time fundraiser will go towards helping animals.

The tour consists of stops at Batcheller Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast, Union Gables Bed and Breakfast, Brunswick Bed and Breakfast, The Saratoga Sleigh Bed and Breakfast and The Mansion Inn of Saratoga. There is no set schedule for visiting the five locations, but the owners of The Mansion Inn have requested that people come at any time after 3 p.m.

Four of the places are located in the Spa City, with just The Mansion Inn a short drive seven miles west in Rock City Falls. Each of the bed and breakfasts will have light refreshments. After the event there will be a drawing for a one night stay at The Chestnut Tree Inn.

Wendy Mongillo, president of H.O.P.E., said the fundraiser is a different twist on the many home and garden tours done in the area throughout the year. Since the organization has never done anything like the tour before, Mongillo said it is difficult to gauge what the turnout will be like.

However, based on the amount of phone calls she has received she believes it may be quite popular.

“People are curious to see the décor and interior of these historic buildings,” Mongillo said. “People like to help animals.”

For its five years in existence, H.O.P.E. has been dedicated to rescuing abandoned, orphaned and neglected animals facing euthanasia at the Saratoga County Shelter due to lack of space.

After placing animals in foster care, the shelterless organization has them spayed or neutered and attends to any medical needs they may have. Their ultimate goal is to find suitable adopters who will provide the animals with a lifelong commitment of love and care.

“There are a lot of homeless pets in Saratoga County. H.O.P.E. is doing our best to change that and find these animals homes,” Mongillo said.

Mongillo said H.O.P.E. is always looking for new volunteers as well as foster homes to temporarily house animals at. In addition to supporting the organization, she hopes people will come out to the event because she believes it will be a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Tickets for the tour, which are available at each of the bed and breakfasts, are $15 per person or $25 for a couple. For more information on the event or the organization, call 428-2994 or visit www.hopeanimalrescue.org.
