Andrew Hassenger

About the artist:

Andrew Hassenger, 24, is a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs. The solo artist began writing songs for this project in 2005, and has been performing out at local venues for more than a year.

The singer/songwriter, who described his work as “short stories about bizarre and dark topics put to music,” uses his keyboard to create rock-influenced classical music. Although Hassenger didn’t cite any specific musical influences, he said he’s a huge fan of death metal and Pink Floyd.

The artist has received airplay on 104.9, and played with mainly local acts. He recently opened for Firefighter Font, Eraserheadz and BEWARE! the Other Head of Science at a well-attended Halloween show at King’s Tavern in Saratoga Springs.

In November 2006, Hassenger released his first full-length album, “Bullshit.” He is currently recording a five song EP titled “Brief Tales from Beyond,” which is due out by the end of the year.

Hassenger has written approximately 17 original songs. To “make a little symphony out of any show,” his half hour to forty-five minute long set is a nonstop performance.

Andrew Hassenger doesn’t have any shows lined up at this time, but he said to check his Web site for updates because he will have some once the EP is finished.

Quotable Quotes:

“No matter what kind of show it is they never see it coming,” Hassenger said of his music. “I’m the misfit performer at every show, but I’m comfortable with it. People seem to appreciate the music.”

“It takes me a long time to finish one,” Hassenger said of his songs. “I love the process of writing, but it’s not something I like to rush. The ideas I like tend to come unexpectedly, to just fall into place. It takes me a while, but it feels right.”
