Spring Fed
Who’s who: James Gascoyne - bass Brian Gibney - guitar and vocals Dan MacDonald - drums About the band: Saratoga Springs’ Spring Fed formed in 1997. After a five-year hiatus, the local band recently reunited. Artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Tom Waits have influenced the trio’s Americana music. Fans of Spring Fed have compared their eclectic sound to that of Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Pearl Jam and John Mellencamp. In 2000, Spring Fed released their only album, “After the Beat Generation.” The group used to tour heavily from New Jersey to Maine, and Gibney said they’ll likely do a regional tour in the near future. Gibney, who hosted open mic nights in the Spa City for eight years, also performs solo and in a duo with Mikki Bakken. He has been a finalist in both Ticketmaster/Yamaha and Mars Music/Palm Records national talent searches. Gascoyne and MacDonald are each involved in several projects as well. The group has approximately 30 original tunes, and will occasionally play a cover song. Spring Fed generally performs for between one and two hours. Spring Fed is playing an 18 and over show at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Backstreet Billiards in Saratoga Springs. Admission is free, and there will be opening acts. Quotable Quotes: “We’re the best of friends,” Gibney said. “We’re in this band because we really believe in the music.” “My heart lies in electric full band music. I love the energy and the interaction. I really believe that energy onstage breeds energy in an audience,” Gibney said. —Mike Ryan |
