When I joined the staff at Saratoga TODAY on April 26, 2007, I had no idea what to expect.

While I’d been in the publications world for nearly 10 years, it was mostly in magazine and trades, a far different breed than newspaper.

I love the variety paper entails, instead of the same topic day-in, day-out and month-in, month-out. I truly can say I’ve learned more in my nearly six months of articles here than I ever did before. But with the excitement of a young paper and the perceived ability to leave my mark, comes frustration and crazy “newspaper” hours.

While, for the most part, I’ve enjoyed the experience, I’ve done a lot of soul searching lately.

After long deliberations with my husband, I have decided to pursue new opportunities. So, this is my last edition of Saratoga TODAY as executive editor. Thank you for the continuing support of this publication, I’ve very much appreciated serving you, our readers, in the past months.

Enough about my future though... What about the paper, you ask?

As of next Monday, Eric DeGrechie will be taking over the editorial reins.

Having worked with Eric in the months he’s been with us as sports editor, I am very excited to see the direction he will take the paper. He has the newspaper blood coursing through his veins and the energy to push the paper to the next level. Not to mention that he’s a lifelong Saratoga resident, he knows the ins and outs of everything this city entails.

I can’t for the life of me think of anyone better for this position and I wish him the best of luck.

Along with Mike Ryan, Eric will be joined by another regular in the Saratoga journalism realm. Kevin Goodwin, The Saratogian’s business reporter for the past three years, will be coming on board as Saratoga TODAY’s new News Editor/Senior Reporter.

This is an exciting time for Saratoga TODAY and I look forward to following along on the sidelines. Who knows, maybe they’ll still let me have a byline every once and a while.

But for now, there are good days ahead for the paper, and for me as well.
