Albany native Vince Commisso grew up in the food industry. His family ran an Italian restaurant in the city for more than 30 years.

After deciding a career in electronics wasn’t for him, Commisso opened his own eatery, Primo Pizzeria and Italian Specialties, in January 2006 with his wife Courtney.

“It’s more rewarding to be able to start something from scratch and build it up,” he said.

Commisso said the business, located at 404 Geyser Road in Ballston Spa, has steadily grown since its inception. In fact, things have gone so well that he recently expanded south.

On Sept. 17, the second Primo Pizzeria opened at 462 Albany Shaker Road in Loudonville. For the new branch Commisso brought on two partners, one of whom is his brother Frank.

“I had been waiting for the right opportunity and the right location. I found both in Loudonville,” he said.

The new shop will have the same menu as the other location, and be open daily. Commisso said he hopes to attract customers from the nearby Corporate Woods.

Primo Pizzeria has dine in, carry-out and catering for events such as corporate functions and family get-togethers. The restaurant offers free delivery all the time, with any order of at least $10.

The menu consists of pasta dinners such as chicken marsala, veal sorrento, eggplant parmesan and stuffed shells as well as hot and cold submarines, salads, sandwiches, soups, wraps and various appetizers and desserts. People can also order a pizza, whether it’s New York style, Sicilian or a specialty like tomato bacon ranch or chicken wing.

“We provide quality food at a reasonable price. Customers regularly comment on our generous portions,” Commisso said. “This is the place to come if you’re looking for a warm, friendly atmosphere and great customer service.”

The restaurant also bottles its own marinara sauce, which is available for purchase, as are homemade gift baskets and gift certificates. In the future, Commisso hopes to get a liquor license and grow in-house dining.

Primo Pizzeria and Italian Specialties is open Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. For more information, call 885-3300 or visit www.ehungry.com/primopizzeria.
