Who’s who: Austin Palmisano – guitar and vocals Tristan Allen – bass and keyboard Kyle Phillips – drums
About the band: The Saratoga Springs band formed roughly a year ago. All three members of Hardwired are 14. Artists including Muse, The Mars Volta, Nirvana, King Crimson, The Ramones, Tool and Radiohead have influenced the progressive punk rock trio. Aside from writing songs for the band, Palmisano also pens short horror stories. His training on guitar and Allen’s on piano both began seven years ago. Two years later, Allen took up the bass as well. Palmisano and Allen have been performing together for approximately three years. Their sound and their drummer changed many times before they found Phillips. Completely self-taught, Phillips has been playing drums for nearly 13 years; he started out banging on his mother’s pots and pans. In June, Hardwired recorded a two song demo, “Pool Table Takes.” Over the next few months, the group plans to re-record those tracks and add a few more songs to put on an EP. The group’s set contains almost a dozen original tunes as well as cover songs like “Poprocks & Coke” by Green Day, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana and “Be Yourself” by Audioslave. After receiving a great deal of positive feedback on June 1 at Maple Avenue Middle School’s talent show, Hardwired played their first official show on Aug. 7 at the Gurtler Brothers VFW in Saratoga Springs. The band opened for a few out-of-state acts as well as local favorites Sai u drom and Sugar Eater. Hardwired is playing an all ages show at 10 p.m. Saturday Aug. 18 at The Huletts Casino in Lake George. Admission is free. To check out the band, visit www.myspace.com/hardwired518. Quotable Quotes: “Playing music puts me in my own bubble. It’s a great way to detach from reality,” Allen said. “Expect something different, a jump out of the mainstream,” Allen said of Hardwired’s music. |
