Originally, I’d planned to recap my entire engagement party experience in New Jersey. I’m not going to do that. Instead, this week’s column will serve more as a brief summary.

Honestly, the whole affair was rather tame and uneventful. No drunken buffoonery, no fist fights and very little drama. I had no reason to expect any of those, but a writer can dream.

Everybody got along and seemed to enjoy themselves at the party. At the end of the day, I think that was the most important thing.

As a couple, my fiancée Jen and I received a number of nice gifts, all of which will travel with her to North Carolina. The presents were basically for her anyway. I have very little use for vases, Waterford crystal or Lenox wine glasses, and they don’t really fit the décor of my current apartment.

Overall, the meeting between our two families and the weekend as a whole went very well. My only real complaint would be the horrendous traffic both in and out of the state.
