DeLorenzo, still looking for his first Malta win of the year, was setting a blistering pace through the mid-portion of the race while young Keith Flach moved into second position.
On Lap 18, while still running second, Flach made the mistake of driving off the backstretch, allowing Matt Sheppard and Ken Tremont to sneak past him. With DeLorenzo still leading the way, Tremont got along side of Sheppard on Lap 29 just as the Caution lights came on for Ronnie Johnson, who had spun in the second turn.
When the Green came back on, Sheppard shot around DeLorenzo but, before the lap could be completed, the Caution was back for a stopped car in Turn 4. While pacing the speedway under the Caution, DeLorenzo suffered a flat tire relegating him to the pit.
When racing resumed on Lap 30, Tremont quickly moved to the inside of Sheppard. The two battled side-by-side for three laps before Tremont finally gained the advantage with just two laps to go. Tremont held off Sheppard for his third win of the year and 46th win at the track. Following Sheppard at the line were Brett Hearn, Todd Stone and A.J. Romano.
Neal Erickson led all 25 laps of the Sportsmen Feature. Erickson started second but had the lead by the end of Lap 1. Once in front, he held off a persistent Tyler Curtis for his first win of the year. Curtis was chased across the Finish Line by Joe Santoro, Stan Lemiesz and Matt Depew.
Kim Duell of Porter Corners took his second Pro-Street Stock Feature of the year. Josh Joseph led the first three laps before Division rookie Jim Monroe, Sr. took over on Lap 4. On a Lap 7 restart, Duell motored around Monroe and opened up a three second advantage by the time they took the checkered flag. Monroe held on for an impressive second place finish over Jimmy Eaton, Dan Madigan and Cale Kneer.
Rich Burke of Saratoga Springs won the 20-Lap Limited Feature. Burke started sixth but passed Bill Burlingame for the lead on Lap 2 and never looked back as he took his second career win, which was his first since August of 2005. Ken Conroy finished second ahead of Dan Petronis, Mike Minick and Jim Monroe, Jr.
Phil DeFiglio continued his winning streak in the Mini-Stock Division. DeFiglio is undefeated in the 6-cylinder class after 12 weeks of racing. The first 4-cylinder across the line was Jamie McCarthy. McCarthy had dominated the class in the 2005 season taking 8 wins and, after some time away from the track, resumed his winning ways.
Racing resumes this Friday, July 27th, with the second appearance of the season of the Central New York Mini-Sprints. The Mini-stock class will have the week off with all other divisions competing. Race time is 6:45 p.m.
