Here is a roundup of action from the local golf scene:
Maru shoots 71 Colonie – Ralph Maru of Mechanicville shot a 71 on Thursday, July 10, 2008 to win the weekly Eastern New York Golf Association tournament at the Town of Colonie Golf Club. Hole in one Stu LaDue of Saratoga Springs shot a hole-in-one recently at Windy Hills Golf Course in Greenwich using a 7-iron on the second hole (156 yards). His buddies Joe Bartol, John Jacobsen and Rich Morris were on hand to witness this phenomenal event! Congratulations, Stu! There were two noteworthy tournaments contested over this past weekend as the mid-season of golf approaches. At the McGregor Links Country Club, the event was the annual member guest tourney. Always an elaborate affair, it attracted a record-setting 50 two-man teams in eight flights according to handicap. The overall winner, the team that accumulated the most points, came out of the eighth flight. The winners, member Nelson Carpenter and guest Michael Carpenter, amassed a total of 35.5 points in a format that featured 6 nine hole matches using 50 percent of their handicap. The other tournament that has become an annual event is the Airway Meadows couples two person scramble. Each year it gains in popularity. The 2008 tourney was no exception. The overall gross winners were Kathy Jones and Jeff Sellis with a 58 or 14 under par. Tammy Crawford and Sandy Hurlburt won the net division with a score of 57.
