Here is a roundup of action from the local golf scene:

One of the most successful and longest-running charitable golf tournaments in our area was recently held at the Albany County Club. Again, it was a success.

The Time Warner Cable Special Olympics tourney that attracts TWC affiliates from all over the Northeast were able to raise $25,000. The monies will aid our area Special Olympians in competing in athletic events that include all major sports. Special Olympians from Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties are dependent on this yearly tournament to carry on their extensive programs.

The tournament has been consecutively for sixteen years and it has raised a total of $250,000.

At the awards banquet, Marge Bagneschi, Chairlady for the area Special Olympic program expressed her gratitude for Time Warner’s involvement in the program.

Upcoming Tournament:

If you would like to play in a fun golf tournament and help Saratoga’s Special Olympians, you should mark down Saturday evening, July 19 on your calendar. No, that’s not a misprint – it’s a Saturday evening where golf will be held at the Galway Golf Course under the stars and a full moon. It will be a 9-hole event using special “midnight golf balls” that are illuminated for playing at night. The tourney is $70 per player; the price includes 9 holes of golf, a full Italian dinner buffet at the Village Pizzeria, beverage, prizes and goodie-bags. The itinerary is as follows:

6:45 p.m. Registration

7:15 p.m. Buffet

Dusk – 9 hole golf tournament

The Saratoga Special Olympians could use your help. If you can’t participate, then a donation of either cash or items for the goodie-bag would be appreciated.

Don’t delay; the field will be limited to 36 players. For further information or to register to play, call Margo Bagneschi at (518) 383-2624. As the local Galway owl would say, “It will be a hoot!” And don’t forget a flashlight.
