Local florists Gretchen and Jim Squires, who own Schrade’s Posie Peddler located in Congress Plaza, were recently featured in Floral Management, a national floral business magazine.
Their walk-in, customer friendly display cooler earned them a spot on the cover of the magazine, as well as being featured in an article. Walk-in coolers that customers are allowed in are unusual in floral shops, and the Squires had a vision to make their store more user-friendly when they relocated to Congress Plaza from their old location on Broadway. “Being featured in Floral Management was quite an honor for us,” Gretchen Squires said. “Our customers really love the cooler, and to earn this distinction is wonderful.” The Squires’ work by the theme “you have to show the product to sell the product,” and by letting customers walk into the flower coolers to view all of the flowers and arrangements themselves, the flowers almost fly off the shelves. “Business is great. Customers have fun in the coolers picking out flowers on their own, listening to the music we have piped in. It’s a wonderful addition to our business,” she said. The cooler is in the style of a European flower market, and more than 75 different colors and varieties of flowers are stored there. It is 16x18 feet and features spinning shelves to allow full view to the customers. Each morning the shelves are re-stocked with the top selling items from the previous day. |
