The races at Albany Saratoga Speedway were rained out last Friday night (June 20).
Up next on the schedule is the track’s biggest race of the year, CVRA vs. The World sponsored by Upstate NY Chevrolet Dealerships. The Friday, June 27 race will be 100 Laps for Big Block and Small Block Modifieds with $8,000 going to the winner. In the two previous CVRA vs. The World races, held in 2003 and 2004, the race distance was 75 laps but with the added laps come the big payday. Several drivers from other speedways throughout the northeast are expected to compete. However, they had better bring their “A” game since history has shown that track regulars are usually up to the challenge. Since 1977, there have been 33 races consisting of 100 laps or more and nine-time track champion Ken Tremont has won seven of them, including the last three. Track regulars Brett Hearn, with three wins, and Jack Johnson, with five wins in 100-lappers, will help defend the home turf. With $300 just for taking the Green Flag, the pits should be jam packed with cars. All Star Chevrolet on Route 50 between Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa is one of several Upstate Chevrolet dealerships offering coupons good for $3 off admission to the big event. (For information on other dealerships offering these discount coupons, go to CVRA.com.) In addition to the Modifieds, the Budget Sportsman, Pro-Stocks, Limiteds and Mini-Stocks will be competing. There will also be a huge fireworks display. Gates will open an hour early (4 p.m.) for a Chevrolet Pre-Race Party with racing getting underway at 6:45 p.m. |
