Dave Matthews loves Saratoga, and Saratoga obviously loves Dave Matthews because after this weekend the band that holds the record for the most sold-out shows at SPAC will return to the venue on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21 for another two night run of sold out shows.
In the past, Matthews has listed SPAC as his favorite summer venue on his website. Last year the band held only one performance at SPAC due to the birth of his third child. The show featured former Phish frontman and Saratoga Springs resident Trey Anastasio sitting in with the band for a few songs and you can bet the rumors will be flying around the lot over Anastasio's return prior to this year's show. The band has already sold out both nights, which is guaranteed to bring in a minimum of 50,000 Matthews fanatics from across the region and beyond to the Spa City. Jen Dangelico of Argyle has attended 10 performances by the band at SPAC since 2000. She said that she and her friends just love Matthews and his music. "It's just a great day filled with cool people and great music," she said. "It's the perfect concert experience." Dangelico added that what she likes most about the band's live performances is their high energy, rock solid set lists and their ability to never put on the same show twice. The Dave Matthews Band (DMB) formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991 and consists of guitarist/vocalist Dave Matthews, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, bassist Stefan Lessard, violinist Boyd Tinsley and drummer Carter Beauford. The band broke into the mainstream in 1994 with the release of their first LP "Under the Table and Dreaming," which featured commercial hits "What Would You Say," "Satellite" and "Ants Marching." The group has released eight studio albums to date and has sold more than 31 million units in the United States alone, putting them in the Top 100 highest selling music acts of all time, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The band is currently in the early stages of production for the release of their ninth studio album. Aside from their studio work the band has also released 10 live albums, including several others through their Live Trax series. On March 25, the group released Live Trax vol. 11, which featured a performance at SPAC from its 2000 summer tour. Opening for the Dave Matthews Band will be Vermont-based group Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, who are fronted by 24-year old vocalist Grace Potter and features a blend of funky blues, soul and rock. The Dave Matthews Band two-night run at SPAC will kick off the 2008 Live Nation Concert Season, which will feature some of the biggest names in music, including Bob Dylan, The Police, and the Allman Brothers Band.
