Malcolm I. Squires
Greenwich – Malcolm I. Squires, 73, a resident of Academy St. died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness. Born May 21, 1935 in Northumberland, NY, he was the son of the late Charles and Agnes McQuian Squires. Mr. Squires was an original member of the former Green Sabres Drum and Bugle Corp. in Schuylerville and had participated in the inaugural parades for President Kennedy and President Johnson. He had been a truck driver for 45 years, working with Paul Garnsey, Sagamore Pulp, Golden Fleece, General Foods and S&T in Middle Falls. While at S&T in 1993, he was awarded the #2 driver in North America driving 4 million safe miles with no accidents. After his retirement he received his NYS Certified Escort license and started his own business, Squirrels Escort Service, where he escorted oversize loads throughout the Northeast. At one time, he owned a dump truck and was involved in building I-87. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing and his camp in Newcomb. Mr. Squires was a volunteer fireman for 50 years, beginning with the Schuyler Hose Company. He was a lifetime active member and Past Chief with the Middle Falls Fire Department where he had been a member for the past 44 years. He enjoyed entertaining the children as Santa Claus at the Firehouse Christmas parties for many years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother Charles Squires, and his brother Donald (Pete) Squires. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Kathleen Nagle Squires of Greenwich; his children, Sheldon Squires of Greenwich, Malcolm (Jeff) Squires and his wife Nancy of Saratoga Springs, Teena Drumm of Titusville, FL, Rhett Squires of Schuylerville, Jeremiah Squires and his wife Joan of Middle Falls, Tanya Grimes and husband Michael of Greenwich, Jacqueline Carson and husband Brian of Bennington, VT; grandchildren, Alisha Hall, Jenny Squires, James Squires, Justin Grimes, and Amber Grimes; great grandchildren, Jarryd Grimes, Jordan Young, Lauren Hall and Kaylee Hall; 1 brother, Robert Squires and wife Frances of Greenwich; 1 sister, Alice DeMatteo of Saratoga Springs; several nieces and nephews, and his basset hound Charlie. Family, friends and fellow fireman gathered at a funeral service on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich.
