Mike Perrotte of Elizabethtown found his way back to Victory Lane at the Albany Saratoga Speedway last Friday night after nearly four years.

Perrotte used to be a fairly regular winner in the late 1980s and 90s but has had a few lean years, going winless since July 30, 2004. This season however, he has been knocking on the door as evidenced by his second place finish a few weeks ago and his 4th place finish last week.

Starting 8th, Perrotte quickly moved into the Top 5 as Ron Proctor took the early lead. Jimmy Cottrell grabbed the lead on Lap 5 but one lap later was the victim of a flat rear tire. Proctor was again the leader but not for long as Dave Camara was on the move and passed Proctor for the lead on Lap 10. With a long stretch of green-flag racing, Camara stretched his lead while Perrotte and Brett Hearn chipped away at the Top 5. On Lap 23, Jeff Trombley spun and collected Elmo Reckner and Ken Tremont. On the restart, Perrotte shot around Camara while Hearn looked for a way by on the inside. As Hearn and Camara raced side-by-side into the third turn, Camara pinched Hearn into the inside wall ending Hearn’s bid for three wins in a row.

With a clear racetrack in front of him, Perrotte pulled away over the final nine laps to score his 17th career win at the Malta oval. Camara held onto second over Matt Delorenzo, Todd Stone and Kenny Tremont.

Mike Ketchum of Mayfield picked off his second win in a row in the 25-Lap Sportsman feature. Joe Santoro and Josh Hohenforst led the early laps before Ketchum slipped under Hohenforst on Lap 17. Ketchum’s second win this season was his fifth overall at the track. Hohenforst barely held off Kory Sandstedt at the finish line for second. Joe Santoro and Rich Ronca filled out the Top 5.

Ballston Spa’s Scott Duell got the monkey off his back. Duell had three early-season second place finishes before finally closing the deal Friday night with a convincing win in the 25-Lap Budget Sportsman feature. He started with the Outer Zone  Laser Tag #14 on the front row and dominated the entire distance. Rookie Jimmy Eaton finished 4.7 seconds behind Duell in his best run to date. Al Williams, Ricky Quick and Bryan Davis rounded out the Top 5.

‘It’s better to be lucky than good,’ as the old saying goes, but Lori Langevin was both last Friday as she won her third consecutive Pro-Stock feature of the year. Langevin was struggling to get past Mike Paquin for second with just 5 laps to go when, all of a sudden, Paquin’s right-front ball joint broke brining out the Caution. While under the Caution Flag, Walt Brownell, Jr., who had led all 20 laps, developed a left-front flat tire handing the lead over to Langevin. When racing resumed, Langevin held off the challenges of Kim Duell and then Cale Kneer over the final 5 laps. Kneer finished second, followed by Duell, Vinny Santoro and Kevin VanChance.

In the best race of the night, Yule Cook and Dan older battled side-by-side for 15 laps before Ballston Spa’s Older took control of the 20-lap Limited feature. Older then held off John Filarecki to score his second win this season. Following Filarecki were Mike Ostrander, Mark Lester and Dan Petronis.

Elmer Montville, Jr. won his first race of the year in the 15-Lap Mini-Stock main. Jimmy Broderick won the touring Central New York mini-Sprint division feature.

Next Friday, June 13, is Kids Night and Awareness Night sponsored by Reality Check, Salisbury Chevrolet and the US Army. There will be Kiddie Rides in the race cars and a Bouncy-Bounce provided by B-Dry Basement Waterproofing.  In addition, the second Summer Enduro is on tap. Kiddie Rides begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing starting at 6:45 p.m.
