In order to support Saratoga Springs School District’s wellness policy, Geyser Road Elementary School will host the first annual Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, May 17.
More than 40 vendors who are in the business of health and wellness will be present to give demonstrations and offer tips on overall wellness including eating habits, exercise and child safety. “We want to promote all aspects of health, both physical and mental,” said Kathy Phillips, chairperson for the event. Vendors include: American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Curves, D.A.R.E, Karate for Kids, The Prevention Council of Saratoga, State Farm, 4-H club and more. Doctors and dentists will also be present to talk with families and answer questions. Karate for Kids will hold karate demonstrations and special events will include a soup cook-off, a fun run and a bike rodeo. Parents will also have a chance to have their children finger printed through Operation Safe Child. The event also features a dance party with DJ Guardrail Gino, games, crafts, raffles and face painting. Healthy refreshments will be available. The health and wellness fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Geyser Road Elementary School Grounds, rain or shine. This is a free event, however there is a small fee to take part in the soup cook-off and fun run. “It is geared toward all people, young and old,” Phillips said. “We want to increase the health of the community as a whole.” |
